Why Your Battle Against Brassy Hair Might Need a New Approach!

I am going to keep this post short, sweet, &

informative so that you can get to bustin' your #brassyhair immediatly.

Brassy hair shows up in 3 tonal values - Yellow, Orange, or Red. Yep, thats it. Now, you can have a combo of 2 of the 3 brassy hair tones at one time but for this #haircoloreducation that you don't have to pay for lets focus on the "MAIN" tone being presented.

I want you to identify what "main" color you are seeing is: YELLOW, ORANGE, or RED.

This will help us keep the "problem" in focus as we seek a solution.

Color theory and the rules of #haircolor based on the color wheel laws will be our North Star - ALWAYS. When I am formulating hair color or helping to neutralize any unwanted warmth in hair color, I pull out my trusty color wheel. Why? The color wheel holds the color key of an opposing color that you will need to cancel out or neutralize

any unwanted tone. This color key we need lives directly opposite of the color that you are seeing present as your "brassy hair".

Heres a #colorwheel guide for you:

When we are looking to cancel BRASS we can only do so when we go directly opposite that color. So, lets say you have a brunette hair color shade, Levels 4-6. At these levels, the "main underlying pigment color will be orange (or a combo 2 ).*

* Levels 7-9/10 (Blonds) underlying pigment is YELLOW

*Levels 4-6 (Brunette to Dark Blonde) underlying pigment is ORANGE

*Levels 1-3 (Black to Dark Brown) underlying pigment is RED

If you have been seeing #purpleshampoo all over TikTok for "brassy hair", ran out, purchased it, shampooed with it, and BOOM! NOTHING HAPPENED... Thats because purple is only opposite of yellow aka gold so it wasnt born to neutralize orange and based on the laws of color; simply cannot.

This is why the color wheel is a #musthavehairtool when problem solving your #haircolorformulations or when you need to cancel or neutralize any unwanted warmth at your haircolor level, and tone of presenting brass color.

Here's the simple breakdown to follow now that you are a #color bad-ass:

Purple neutralizes Yellow

Blue neutralizes Orange

Green neutralizes Red

Why and How?

Because those tones are directly opposite on the color wheel, and thats just how it is. #periodt

If you follow these rules and reference your color wheel next time you are approaching #diyhaircolor or looking to get rid of your brassy hair - you will always get the results your looking to achieve.

I hope that you learned a little more about the problem, to help discover a solution. If you didn't - no worries, you didn't pay to get in here anyway so win/win! Muahaha!

In the meantime, #lovepeaceandhairgrease
